Mont Joli

Mont Joli

Mont Joli owes its name to the presence of a pretty little hill from the top of which there is a wonderful view of the St Lawrence coast and the Mitis River. It is an ideal spot for snowmobiling enthusiasts and outdoor activities.

A must see! Reford Gardens, called Les Jardins de Metis, is certainly one the best places to visit within a few kilometers of Mont Joli, in the beautiful touristic region of Gaspesie. This garden, located in a natural environment, is one of the most spectacular attractions visited by thousand of tourists every year.

In the summer of 1940 the Royal Canadian Air Force selected a flat area of farmland between Mont-Joli Station (on the Montreal-Halifax Canadian National Railway mainline) and the Saint Lawrence River for a military airfield. Construction on the aerodrome began in October 1941 and was completed by April 1942 at a cost of $200,000. Today, it is the busiest airport in Eastern Quebec and was selected by the Commonweath countries as a strategic site for the construction of a bombing and gunnery school.
