About the rally

Canada mapCanada owes more to aviation than any other country in the world: Canada is the second largest country in the world. Very few people live in the Northern parts of Canada (provinces and territories). In northern Canada near the Arctic Circle, the sea is covered with ice and floating icebergs.

On February 23, 1909 J McCurdy on board the Silver Dart, took off from the frozen waters of Bras d’ Or Lake in Baddeck, Nova Scotia. In honor of this historic celebration, Aviation Connection, a non-profit organization and officially appointed trustee of the Governor General’s Cup, presents the FIRST FLIGHT EVER air rally to cross ALL Canadian Provinces and Territories with a group of pilots originating from different countries (Australia, USA, France, Canada) gathered together to mark this important anniversary.

Participating crews will experience great changes as they fly over a very diversified landscape from the land of 100,000 lakes (Manitoba) over thick forest, rocks and rivers, swamps and tundra (large areas of frozen land) back through the Polar Bear capital: Churchill, MB and the green wild regions of Northern Ontario and Quebec to finally reach the St-Lawrence River leading the group to the rugged coast line of Newfoundland. The return trip snakes through the quaint fishing villages of the Maritime Provinces.
